DAYTON–A 39-year-old Dayton resident had his first appearance in Columbia County Superior Court here Friday, June 23, and faces a charge of first-degree robbery in connection with a June 20 alleged armed robbery of the My Dad's Place Bar at 127 East Main Street.

Joshua D. Bye, who lives in the 100 block of West Cameron Street, was released on $50,000 unsecured personal recognizance bond on condition of wearing an alcohol-monitoring device and surrendering all firearms to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. He is also prohibited from having contact with personnel connected with the bar.

Bye is alleged to have entered the recently opened establishment at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, court documents show. Security-camera images allegedly depict the suspect pointing a firearm at the My Dad's Place Bar employee behind the counter and are alleged to show the person reaching into the register till and pulling out approximately $250 in cash before turning and exiting the building.

The following day, Wednesday, June 21, Bye returned to his residence where family members advised him of images on social media that, the court documents indicate, appeared to be of Bye. He turned himself in at the Sheriff's Office between 3:30-4:00 p.m. that day.

Police investigated and gathered evidence that allegedly supports accounts of Bye's whereabouts and attire that night.

Bye was arrested and booked into Walla Walla County Jail June 21. His next appearance will be at 1:30 p.m. July 12, 2023. The first appearance was presided over by Judge Kim Boggs.

Prosecuting Attorney C. Dale Slack has referred handling of this matter to Garfield County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Newberg due to Bye's family being close friends.
