DAYTON–Countless hours and expertise came together to obtain a third-party accreditation for Dayton Middle and High Schools through the Washington Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD), a private company that works to accredit Washington State schools, the Dayton School District has announced.
Accreditation guarantees students the transfer of their credits, opens opportunities for scholarships and grants, and holds the school accountable to their mission, vision and improvement goals.
Principal Guin Joyce led the secondary leadership team in the necessary steps to obtain the six-year endorsement. The secondary team worked over many months and attended multiple day-long workshops to obtain the accreditation.
Accreditation is important to students because of the accountability it provides to state high schools whose focus is to prepare students for college. Providing the structure to support the School Improvement Planning, the AESD guarantees that the goals are reviewed and re-evaluated. The accreditation is a six-year endorsement that will be re-examined at the three-year mark.
