DAYTON–Tthe Swine Showmanship Clinic took place at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 29. The clinic, lead by Becky Tetrick and Cara Shepherd and coordinated by Wyntr McCauley and Emmalee Cole was a great success. The bleachers were full of young kids ready to learn and participate in this event.

Many young 4-Hers were able to learn about the four main objectives; Showmanship, Hair, Skin, and Feeding. Cara Shepherd started by teaching the different methods of feeding that included electrolytes, brands of feed, bulking, and deworming. Becky Tetrick explained how to properly care for the pig's skin by using conditioner and sunscreen on them and bathing them frequently while they are still at home. These methods help the pigs create a tougher layer of skin, prevents sunburn, and redness during fair washing.

Following this, Kendyl Tetrick, Kenley Tetrick and McKenzie Shepherd lead the group in a demonstration of showmanship and market showing. These girls did a wonderful job demonstrating their showing skills and helping younger kids as they walked into the ring to ask questions.

To wrap things up, the participants broke into groups by age to participate in a clinic activity. During this time, each were asked to show as if showing a pig for showmanship using a beach ball. It was a fun way to practice and develop some showing skills.

Overall, the clinic was a great success!
