The Lady Bulldogs were competitive with the Tekoa-Rosalia Lady Timberwolves in last week's losing match, falling a few points behind, unable to put together a run that put them in the lead. The team rallied on several occasions to tie the set, but couldn't sustain a lead to edge the competition. Layla Booth (2) led the team in digs. Also pictured: Elsie Mann (6).

DAYTON–The Lady Bulldogs dove into the 2023 regular season with a pair of losses last week, a home-court, three-set defeat by Tekoa-Rosalia on Thursday, Sept. 14, and a road loss to Colton the Tuesday before.

Dayton is now 1-2 overall, 0-2 in league with this week's games at Pomeroy last Tuesday, and a non-league home stand versus Columbia-Burbank tonight, Sept. 21.

The Lady Timberwolves won in three sets, 23-25, 19-25 and 21-25.

"We had great energy and effort nearly all night," said Head Coach Des Jones. "Unforced errors sprinkled throughout the night allowed TR to pull ahead and take each set. I am incredibly happy with how they played together.

Jones said the team understands the urgency of trying to become unified in their play on the court, while learning together with each play.

Peyton Benavides had five kills and 13 serves, Layla Booth led the team in digs and Lucy Trump led with assists.

At Colton, the Lady Wildcats downed the Dawgs in three sets, and the teams played two additional sets for experience for the young athlets.

"We really struggled with just about every skill set at any point during the match," Jones commented. "Our first trip on the road with a very young team was tough one for everyone involved."

Jones is working with her athletes to improve the "mental aspect of the game. If they are able to do that, then everything they do will be improved," Jones said.

Brooklyn Laughery had a team high 12 serves, and Elsie Mann had four kills.
