Senior Graffiti Night & Gear-Up Week

DAYTON–This was Gear Up week for secondary students. Gear Up is "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs." This fantastic federally funded program helps students nationwide be prepared for their future careers, goals, and colleges. Numerous activities were planned out for the week of September 24–29 by the Dayton Gear Up staff. On Monday, single questions were posted around the high school, and every question found and answered was rewarded with candy. Tuesday was the "Chalk Dream Walk," where students wrote with chalk on a poster that was then posted in the high school commons. Students participated in spending and saving games during the advisory period on Wednesday. Staff and teachers hung "about me" posters outside their rooms on Thursday. Then on Friday, students and staff wore college or career "swag." There was also a BINGO blackout game and an assembly featuring Motivational Speaker Jonathan Medina.

The Class of 2024 had a "Graffiti Night" to paint the curbs on their Senior parking spots located in the lot nearest the High School. Madison Richardson was the leader of this project. This "Graffiti Night" was Madison's leadership project for her leadership class, taught and advised by Sarah Reser. The Senior student's mothers brought food and fun for this special night. Eleven Senior students participated.
