A Fire District No. 3 fire truck hits the fire line among several units from districts three and one that responded to an accidentally set fire on the hillside north of Dayton last week.

DAYTON–A stubble fire on the hillside overlooking Dayton to the south was ignited inadvertently by occupants of 101 Klingenstein Drive and when the smoke had cleared, some 90 acres of ground was blackened October 4, according to Jeromy Phinney, chief of Fire District No. 3.

The project of patching cracks in asphalt using a propane torch caught dry grass at the edge of the driveway, Phinney said, and the flames moved quickly out of control.

District 3 responded to the 1:30 p.m. call, including three brush trucks, two grass trucks, two water tenders, a bulldozer and a UTV, Phinney said. Mutual aid from District No. 1 responded with a tender and grass truck.

The fire was cleared at 5 p.m.
