Vehicle crashes into Dayton Ave. residence

Christopher A. Smith, of Cheney, was driving his vehicle into Dayton to fuel up and get some food before heading back to deer camp when he apparently blacked out. Smith's vehicle collided with the home of Glen A. Herbst.

DAYTON–A 54-year-old Cheney, Wash. Resident, in the area hunting, apparently suffered a medical episode possibly related to diabetes, and collided his 2016 Ram pickup into 300 E. Dayton Avenue on Oct. 24.

Christopher A. Smith, of Cheney, was driving his vehicle into Dayton to fuel up and get some food before heading back to deer camp when he apparently blacked out. Smith's vehicle collided with the home of Glen A. Herbst.

Smith was checked by medical personnel and stated to Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputies that he hadn't been feeling well and must have passed out while driving. Smith sustained a laceration to his head and left hand. The airbag did not deploy.
