Pool Proposition passes; Spring new Port Commissioner; Joann Patras elected to City Council

Mike Spring received 56.76% of the vote to win the Port Commissioner No. 2 seat over Randy Schafer.

DAYTON–The proposed Columbia County Pool District made a big splash with Columbia County voters, passing with 881 votes in favor, or 69.48%, and local brew-pub businessman Mike Spring captured the majority of votes in his race against Randy Schafer for Port Commission Position No. 2, Spring garnering 764 votes (56.76%) to Schafer's 582 votes (43.24%) in the November 7 General Election. In the race for Dayton City Council Position 6, Joann E. Patras received 404 votes to Devin Greenup's 324 to win the seat.

Of the 2,863 registered voters, 1,401 ballots were counted as of Election Night, with an estimated 119 remaining to be counted. Voter turnout was 48.93%. All reported results are election-night returns with another count and certification at a later date.

Incumbent Collen M. Sproul was retired from her long-time position on the Hospital District Commission, being edged by Lindsey Anderson, who received 808 votes (63.72%) to Sproul's 460 (36.28%). With Walla Walla County results added in, Anderson received 988 votes or 66.04% to Sproul's 503 or 33.62%.

In Starbuck, Charles Hill received 31 votes to Traci Mings's 15 votes to win the Town Council Seat 1 post. Waitsburg School District incumbent Christy House received 24 votes to challenger Tia Hays's 3. House received 222 votes to Hays's 66 in the combine counties.

Also on the ballot were Columbia County Pool District Commission positions, to be official in the event the proposition to form the district succeeded, which it did. New commissioners are Dianne McKinley, Lisa Naylor, Ted Lowe, Katie Leid and Terri Lea Hessler. Leid and Marjorie Lowe were candidates for seat No. 4, Leid receiving 861 votes to Lowe's 237. For Seat No. 5, Hessler and Fred Crowe both vied for the position, Hessler garnering 754 votes and Crowe receiving 420.

Unopposed candidates included:

Auditor Will Hutchens, 1,058 votes; City of Dayton Mayor Roger Trump, 621 votes; James Su'euga 541 votes; Dayton Council No. 5 Shannon L. McMillen, 585 votes; Dayton Council No. 6, Kyle Anderson, 560 votes; Town of Starbuck No. 3, Don W. Jackson, 42 votes; Town of Starbuck No. 5, Britney Russell, 38 votes; Columbia County Fire District No. 1 Commissioner No. 1, Harvey Fletcher, 22; Columbia County Fire District No. 2 Commissioner No. 3, Jim Hickam, 51 votes; Columbia County Fire District No. 3 Commissioner No. 2, Patrick Barker, 862 votes; Hospital District Commissioner No. 5, Jamie Smit, 831 votes; Prescott Joint Park & Rec, Subd. 1, Matthew Hamilton, 3; Prescott Joint Park & Rec, Subd. 4, Selene Rubio, 4; Prescott Joint Park & Rec, Subd. 5, Carol Hartwig, 2; Dayton School District, No. 2, Zachary Fabian, 764; Dayton School District No. 3, Grant Griffen, 844; Dayton School District No. 4, Aneesha Dieu, 758; Prescott School District, No. 3, Kevin Chabre, 2; Prescott School District No. 4, Preston Brock, 4, Starbuck School No. 1, Joshua Hershaw, 56; Starbuck School No. 2, Diane Lusk, 58; Starbuck School No. 5AL, Joanne Knouf, 51; Waitsburg School District, No. 1, Sarah Boudrieau, 21; Waitsburg School District, No. 4, Abby Grende, 21; Waitsburg School No. 5, Carol Clarke, 20.
