Marissa Tupling (5) puts some D on Pomeroy's Haliee Brewer (2), creating a loose ball in Dayton's 35-24 loss to the Lady Pirates last weekend in Pomeroy Tupling shared team-high honors with Peyton Benavides with nine points.

POMEROY––Like outside temperatures of late, the Lady Bulldogs iced up in the second quarter then recovered, but the damage was done and the Lady Pirates put a 35-24 win over Dayton in the record books here Saturday, Jan. 13. The Lady Dawgs were still in the hunt for their first win until Tuesday, January 16, when they defeated Prescott's Lady Tigers 47-12 (full story next week).

Coming up for the team is Gar-Pal this Friday at home then a Tuesday, Jan. 23 road trip to River View.

After the first eight minutes at Pomeroy, the Lady Bulldogs trailed by only three points, setting up what looked to be a competitive contest.

In the second quarter, Dayton only mustered two points to Pomeroy seven for an 18-10 difference at half time.

Third- and fourth-quarter totals were squeakingly tight. The Lady Pirates won the third quarter 9-8 and the fourth 8-6, belying the fact that both squads were fairly evenly matched.

The Lady Bulldogs played the Lady Pioneers of Mac-Hi and took it to 'em in the first quarter for a 9-6 lead. But the Lady Pioneers exploded with 25 second-quarter points to put the game out of reach for a final 53-39.

Teagan Culley led the first half in three pointers while Peyton Benavides led the team in the mid-range and post area.

"It was a huge effort by Dayton Lady Bulldogs," said Head Coach Jorie Aukerman. "We started out the first quarter strong, ending it 9-6. Dayton came out second quarter and lost that momentum, creating a half time score of 31-18."

The Lady Dawgs put up more than half their shots and free throws in the second half, but shots were not falling, Aukerman said. "It was a battle," she said, "and the Lady Bulldogs played tough and pushed through. An overall great effort by Dayton."
