The long season for the Bulldogs is showing some dividends as they've counted their fourth win, a last-second 49-47 win over Colton in front of the hometown crowd last weekend. Here Bulldog Raymond Yutzy (5) battles Oakesdale's Embrie Anderson (5) for a rebound (one of his nine) in Dayton's 70-26 loss there last Friday. Bulldog Carson Potter (15) and Cayle Davis (35) are also pictured.

DAYTON–With the game against Colton coming down to the wire, the Bulldogs managed to nudge ahead by four points, but the Wildcats rallied and were up by three points with 17 seconds to go.

After a time out, the Bulldogs executed well: Nolan Korslund set a screen which allowed 6-2 freshman Denver Hutchen room to get free and take an assist from fellow 6-2 freshman Jordan McCowen.

Hutchens drained the three from 26 feet, tying the game.

Aggressive Dayton defense hurried Colton's move up the floor, and the pressure caused a mishandled pass that another 6-2 freshman, Jack Zanger deflected to Hutchens, who loped the length of the court for the game-winning lay-up at the buzzer.

"It was fun to see the student body and players have that moment together," said Head Coach Clayton Strong. "We still have a lot to work on but hopefully we can learn them while having this good feeling."

"We did a very good job on the backboards as we outrebounded them by 20," Strong said. "We had guys making contributions throughout."

At Oakesdale, the Nighhawks were solid in the first half taking a 20-5 lead after eight minutes and a 40-13 half-time difference. Oakesdale's defense shut down Hutchens, with a team-high eight, and McCowen, with seven. Embrie Anderson led Nighthawk scorers with 15, and four other teammates were in double figures.

"Compared to when we played them three weeks ago, we were vastly better," Strong said. "We played with a lot of positive energy even when we got down.

"We did much better against Oakesdale's switching defenses," he added. "Oakesdale is extremely well coached and they shoot the ball well so it's always going to be challenging to play them."

Eleven of River View's 12-man roster were in the scoring column on the Panther's 69-23 win Jan. 23.

"We saw arguably the strongest team we will play all year and it showed on the backboards," Strong said. "We gave up too many offensive rebounds." The Panthers counted 42 rebounds to Dayton's 27.

"We did start to see some fight that we hadn't seen all year, which was a positive for us," Strong commented.
