The going got tough in the paint, and Lady Bulldog Alexa Jones got tough, too. The Lady Dawgs came out on the short end of 63-21 but the night earlier notched a 38-27 win over River View. Jones scoring a team-high eight points.

DAYTON–The Lady Bulldogs count another win this season with a 38-27 tilt over the River View Lady Panthers last week, led by Marissa Tupling's 10 and Teagan Culley's nine points, then Whitman County power houses Oakesdale and Colton dished out some pain with 63-21 and 68-24 defeats, respectively.

The season wraps up this Friday with Senior Night against Tekoa-Rosalia.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to get shots off against Colton, but nothing was falling, said Head Coach Jorie Aukerman. "Dayton started slow in the first half-shots were not falling in," she said, "and Colton got a good lead."

Grace Trump was the team high scorer with eight and Marissa Tupling chocked up seven.

In the second half, the Lady Dawgs continued to play tough defense, Aukerman said, and while they worked to get open shots on offense, it was not enough against the Lady Wildcats' tough defense.

At Oakesdale, the Lady Nighthawk's tight defense kept Dayton from getting many shots away; meanwhile, the opponents hammered the rim with 21 first-quarter points and never looked back.

Team shooting numbers improved in the second half, but not enough to keep up with Oakesdale's power game. Injuries pared the Lady Bulldogs to six players in the second half.

At River View, the Lady Bulldogs were tenacious and finished the first period behind 4-3.

In the second quarter, Dayton's defensive pressure in this "tough and scrappy game," Aukerman said, ended with the Lady Bulldogs ahead 14-6 at halftine.

Both teams were tough on defense in the second half, with some Lady Dawgs needing to leave the court due to injuries, but the fight was still on and Dayton led after three quarters, 24-18.

In the fourth stanza, Dayton played with just six players-two in foul trouble-and ended strong in spite of River View putting up more shots.
