DAYTON–The Dayton School's FFA Trap Shoot Team requested approval from the School Board to travel to Wenatchee for the state tournament at the most recent board meeting on February 21.
FFA Advisor Melanie Morgan along with 3 members of the Trap Shoot team; Luke Collier, Andrew Wetz, and Lyam Donohue presented their full itinerary to the board with a request that the board approve them to go to their State Tournament in Wenatchee in April.
The team is made up of five boys and one girl who have practiced hard and competed in multiple small tournaments in the area to qualify for the state tournament.
Luke Collier told the board that a gentleman from Moses Lake told the team "he heard that Dayton was one of the youngest teams and that they are the team to beat!"
Lucas Collier, Luke Collier's father is listed as a chaperone for this trip also added, "I have been taking 4 out of 6 of the boys to the shooting range where they are also on a national league. Three of the six are already top 100 in the nation for youth." He continued that "Byron and Andrew are both in the top senior group shooting in the top 100 nationwide. And Luke is shooting in the top 100 in the juniors."
The trip to the state competition also includes several educational field trips to learn more about agriculture. The board unanimously approved the FFA Trap Shoot Team to attend the state tournament in April.
In addition at this meeting the board held an executive session to discuss applicants for the superintendent position. After the executive session the board voted to move forward with interviews for three of the nine candidates. The candidates are Jodi Thew, Jeremy Wheatly, and Guin Joyce. They will be conducting interviews on March 6.
