DAYTON–The Columbia County Parks and Recreation District (CCPD) discussed funding options; first steps in pool blueprint; Town Hall Meeting; and approved Resolution 2024-01, at the meeting February 29.

CCPD Chairperson Dianne McKinley reviewed RCW 39.50 which would allow the municipal corporation to borrow money for a short-term obligation. As the district currently has no funding, this would allow them to pay off already-accruing bills such as the ballot initiative fees to the county and upcoming expenses such as attorney, accountant, and preparing to campaign for a tax levy; and initiating pool plans.

To develop a pool plan and blueprint, which will be needed to move forward with grant application, finding contractors and placing call for bids, the public will be included in the discussion. A Town Hall is planned at the Dayton Elementary Multipurpose Room on April 18 at 6 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will help define what exactly the public wants (adding more swim lanes for a swim team, slides, diving boards, ADA compliant access, and other options), and what is realistic.

In other business, the CCPD voted to adopt Resolution 2024-01, their mission and vision statement. The first draft of the board’s rules and policies were reviewed and discussed. A resolution will be presented at the next meeting for approval. The CCPD were informed the District’s P.O. Box was rented. McKinely used personal reserves to secure a mail drop and will wait for reimbursement until funds available.
