Bank of America trustee Kevin Paulson VSP, presented a summary of income money from the farm in the W. W. Day Trust for the crop year 2012. The farm has 1379.2 tillable acres. The trust had $136,000 for disbursement with the school and health districts each receiving check for $68,000.

Edith Dull, a 2010 graduate of Dayton High School, recently sang with the Chamber Choir from College of Idaho at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Twenty-Five Years Ago

April 1, 1999

The March 20 launch marked the beginning of the fifth season of operations for the Blue Mountain Rocketeers Model Rocketry Club, with 98 planned for March.

Washington State Insurance Commissioner Deborah Senn said the Washington State Senate took a big step forward for health insurance when they approved a comprehensive "Patients' Bill of Rights."

Eight 5th and 6th grade students attended the Walla Walla Valley Elementary Mathematics Contest at Berney School in Walla Walla. Three Dayton 5th graders, Tommy Lovell, Brian Tate and Cole Blessinger participated in the team problem solving event and placed 1st. out of the 17 teams. Multiplication and division: Scott Underwood-1st, Andrew Rassbach-2nd, Marcus Mead-3rd. Spatial problems: Brian Tate. The next competition will be the Math Olympiad at EWU in Cheney.

Fifty Years Ago

April 4, 1974

Kristy Boggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Boggs, was named recipient of a $125 scholarship awarded each year by Columbia County Homemakers to young women planning to further their education in Home Economics.

Brian Mikelson, of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Mikelson, and Ana Rose Orozco, member of the Barnyard 4-H Club, were awarded two trips to 4-H camp in June.

George Hill was awarded the Eagle's Home Town Builder Award for his many years of outstanding community service.

Navy Airman Apprentice Robert O. Beatty, son of Mr., and Mrs. Harold R. Beatty, has completed the Aviation Structural Mechanic School. Aviation structural mechanics maintain hydraulic systems, fuselages and wings aboard naval aircraft.

Terry Godbout, the Blue Mountain Skyline Ski Basin project manager, speaking before the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, stated that he "see the light at the end of the tunnel" for the project.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

March 31, 1949

At a meeting in Pomeroy, the Eight-County Sportsmen Association endorsed soil conservation throughout the area and endorsing a bill now in Congress providing for revegetating forest areas and endorsed the spotted season for Chinese pheasants and California quail.

Land owners of Columbia County, outside cities and towns, are going to vote on establishing a soil conservation District for Columbia County.

Zack Munden was killed in a tractor accident in an asparagus field on the Henry Delany place near Marengo, when he was caught under a wheel tractor that tipped over, bottom side up.

The war news from Mani's this week is a continuous victory for the Americans. Malolos has fallen, but the rebels have moved their capital to San Fernando. It is expected that Aguinaldo and his entire army will be taken within the next 24 hours.

To Whom It May Concern: there are certain parties in these parts that are getting too handy with a gun. They took a fine sow that belonged to Mrs. R. F. McKee for a mark and killed her. Now if these parties will let her know if the hogs are bothering anything she will take care of them. Don't go and kill the stock.

Mrs. Jack Macy, in sending some things to Europe for relief of distressed persons. She received a letter from a woman, who had lost all their property and possessions and her husband is a prisoner war working in a mine in Poland, thanking her for the clothing, chain, powder and towel which was a good thing to have, as we badly in want of one.
