School Board approves contract with Jeremy Wheatley

DAYTON–The Dayton School Board unanimously approved a three-year contract with Jeremy Wheatley for the superintendent position during a special meeting on March 29.

During the "Meet The Candidates Forum" at the beginning of March, Wheatley, a 1994 Dayton High School graduate, stated he was "itching to get back here, and that he believed the timing was right for his family to make the move."

"There is the challenge of getting the job done; there is always something," said Wheatley. "But, as far as a challenge...the political environment, I welcome because I think unity is key." He also stated that clear communication with parents and the community is how he will build trust and unity.

Rich Stewart has served as the interim superintendent for the last two years. He has helped the school board seek candidates for this position and work with them on narrowing down their criteria and questions for the candidates.

Stewart will be helping to transition Wheatley into the position.
