Bulldog sprinter in top 10 at McDougall Invite

Dayton's Hikaru Iwamoto finished ninth in the 100m. and 13th in the 200m. and appears to be the Bulldog Track and Field team's best chance to continue in the post season.
COLFAX–In the Dayton Bulldogs' final "big invitational" meet of the season, Bulldog speedster Hikaru Iwamoto finished high in the 100 m. and 200 m. dashes.
"This [McDougall Invitational] was our last big invitational," said Head Coach Dan Nechodom. "We'll compete with District 9 in Pomeroy on April 30."
Iwamoto came in ninth out of 55 sprinters in the 100 m. dash with an 11.76 time, not far off first-place Robert Joshua Jr. of Auburn Mountainview at 11.01.
In the 200 m., Iwamoto was a respectable 13th with a time of 24.66. Joshua Jr. won that one, too, the only sprinter to finished under 23 seconds, at 22.49.
"It was great to see the Waitsburg girls pull together a 4x200 relay and run it pretty competitively," Nechodom said. "Our other 4x100 relay teams are looking competitive, and are finding issues to fix. Many athletes continue to study their own performance, and learn from as many resources as they can, in order to improve."
The District qualifying meet has been eliminated. In its place, the top 16 athletes in each event from Districts 7 and 9 will advance to Regionals at Ritzville May 15 and 18. Placement will be based on season-best performances.
At Regionals, some field events and the 1,600 m. will be held on Wednesday, May 15. The rest of the field events and the 3,200 m. will be on Saturday, May 18. All laned events will have preliminaries on Wednesday, with finals on Saturday. The top five boys and four girls from Regionals will advance to the state championships in Yakima.
