DAYTON–The local FFA Trap Shooting Team compete against 47 teams, takes 6th place at the State Trap Invitational in April.
The six members of Dayton's FFA Trap Team, High School students Byron Collier, Andrew Wertz, and Sawyer Brenner; and Middle School members Luke Collier, Lyam Donohue, and Rozlyn Magill, participated in the Washington State FFA Trap Shooting Invitational on April 19-20. Trap teams are generally comprised of high school aged members only. However, Dayton's team has three middle school members which provides a great opportunity to advance. The young team participated well coming in tied for sixth place with a score of 332. Byron Collier placed 5th in the state for the "Miss n' Out" game.
"Trap shooting requires the shooter to shoot at a target after he or she calls "pull," said FFA Advisor and Agriculture Instructor. "Points are awarded when the participant hits the target, whether it shatters or only a small portion of it is broken at which point the target is considered a "dead" or "lost" bird. This is a great start for this young team and we look forward to what next year holds!"
