A group of Dayton FFA students visit Asotin high school for a day of Parliamentary Procedure training. Those who attended the seminar are left Sage Kilts, Kaylene Slack, Mackena Culley, Sadie Seney, Cecilia Acevedo, Milena Gimmel, Roselin Burris, Cassidy Laughery and Nolan Korslund.

DAYTON-High School students had a fulfilling Valentine's day holiday last week. The students looked forward to the tradition and new celebrations planned by the Associated Student Body for the school. They were also given an opportunity to finally put in an official opinion on their Dayton-Waitsburg Sports combine mascot of choice. To add to the excitement of the week, the FFA students were kept busy with training and competitions.

To make this year's Valentine's Day extra special, the ASB members organized a small celebration on Friday just before the half-day release. During seventh period the high schoolers were treated to hot cocoa and cookies, and each student was given an envelope filled with Valentines and candy grams from their peers and teachers. Then at "The Club" the monthly teen event on Wednesday was decorating cookies, and making Valentines. The week prior to Valentine's, some students chose to create hand-made cards and treats for their friends in their spare class time to make the holiday extra sweet.

In addition to the February 14 celebrations, the middle and high school students were also called to an assembly regarding the Dayton-Waitsburg athletic combine mascot. The ASB presented to the school the six options which are being considered for the role, and described the idea, the pros and cons, and the flexibility of each option. The six options which were presented were as follows: DW BirdDogs, DW Valley Giants, DW Valley Wolf Pack, DW Valley Vikings, DW Valley, and the DW Valley Kings. After the assembly each student was given a ballad, and the option to select their top two mascots of choice, narrowing down the decision.

The FFA members were busy as usual, participating in a Parliamentary Procedure workshop on Wednesday at Asotin High School. They were walked through common motions which are used in parliamentary procedure, and given new materials and knowledge to help their understanding of parliamentary procedure and common motions.

Five exceptional FFA members have had their FFA degrees approved at the district level, and are being regarded for state level. These students are Tayven Seney, Kira Boggs, Jurnee Griffen, Josiah White, and Cassidy Laughery. The State FFA Degree requires many feats in their FFA careers, and is the highest degree awarded at the State level.
