What's New at School?

Spring Is Here!

March 12, 2020

DAYTON–The spring sports ball is rolling. With the introductory first week down, it’s time to get serious for these teams. The initial practices are always tough ones, getting back into shape after the long off-season rest.

The DW track team pulled in many new members this year, largely from the freshman class, which leaves plenty of direction to be given by the coaches and returning members in the first few weeks. As individuals, the athletes will compete in four events of their choosing. Now that the team has the basics down, it’s time to work on their individual skills–throwing, jumping, sprinting, distance events.

After the resignation of Dayton coach Shane Robins last year, who coached for many years, the Softball team has introduced new head coach Carly Fabian. A local alumna of Dayton High School, who played softball for the Bulldogs in her high school years. The softball team has a history of success, having made it to state last year as well as many others, and under the new instruction of coach Fabian, the hope of the team is to do just that.

With the warmer weather, and sunny, colorful days coming on fast, the spring season is always an exciting time for student athletes. Now having just one week left to prepare before their first competitions, the teams are ready for some game time in the sun. To kick off the season, the usual Winter sports banquet will be on Thursday, March 12 to celebrate the end of winter sports.

The Dayton-Waitsburg athletes appreciate any and all community support! Find the softball, baseball, golf, track and field schedules in the DEAR Ad of the Dayton Chronicle newspaper, print or online (www.daytonchronicle.com), your local news source.
