DAYTON–In the spirit of the season, teamwork among several local organizations and the generosity of volunteers and donors made the Christmas holiday more enjoyable for 100 families in the community.

Project Timothy volunteers helped pack the food boxes that were distributed to local Columbia County residents recently.

Project Timothy's annual Christmas Basket Program will give those families the gift of a hearty meal for the holidays. The menu will include ham, fruit, vegetables, pumpkin pie, rolls, potatoes and other items, according to Jeannie Lyonnais of Project Timothy.

"The food was purchased by Project Timothy with funds which were raised through grants and donors," Lyonnais said.

The Dayton Kiwanis Club volunteered to move the food, some of it on pallets, from Dayton Mercantile to the St. Joseph's Parish Hall, on December 2.

Alongside Project Timothy board members, the Kiwanis volunteers and five high-school students packed the gift baskets and helped with curbside distribution.

"Public Transportation graciously offered to deliver the food to families who were unable to pick up their own boxes," Lyonnais said.
