Tours for Dayton Public Schools students

October 21, 2021

Over the past few weeks, we have been delighted to welcome Dayton Elementary, Middle and High school classes to tour the library and learn about all we have to offer. Students learned about how the library is organized using the Dewey Decimal System (now 145 years old), discovered the variety of items available in our Library of Things, and caught a glimpse of Dayton's history by viewing newspapers from our archives. If your class, group, or organization would like a tour of the library, send us an email at [email protected] to schedule it.

Part of the library's mission is to connect with and support groups and organizations in the community. Last month Todd, your Library Director, had the pleasure of leading a music and story time at The Club. The kids listened attentively as he read Doctor DeSoto by William Steig and Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears: An African Folk Tale by Verna Aardema, and sang along enthusiastically to songs such as "The Popcorn Song". The visit was enjoyed by students and staff alike, and it is our hope that this visit will encourage them to come to the library in the future.

Discovery Kids (DK) in-person programming has resumed every Wednesday starting at 10:00 a.m. in the Delany Building. And Family Story Time has resumed on the third Thursday of each month starting at 6:30 pm. Sign up on the library's website for your Take-and-Read kit If COVID-19 numbers force us to close for a time, we will be offering these programs virtually instead.
