Judge G. Scott Marinella administered the oath of office to newly appointed Superior Court Clerk Krissy Chapman in a brief ceremony December 29 in the Columbia County Superior Court Room. Chapman will fill the remaining year of retiring Clerk Sue Marinella's term.

Chapman was the sole applicant for the position being vacated by the retirement of Clerk Sue Marinella, Judge Marinella's spouse. The opening was publicized and Chapman was vetted by the Columbia County Republican Central Committee, which recommended Chapman to the Board of County Commissioners for appointment.

Boggs was administered the oath of office after Chapman. Marinella's voice faltered briefly as he was overcome with emotion.

"This is emotional for me because I've known her for so many years, and I'm glad we're not 'on the record,'" Judge Marinella said. "She is well deserving of this office and I know will be beneficial to the citizens of the county, and will conduct herself in the utmost ethical fashion. Please raise your right hand...."

After administering the oath of office to Boggs, Marinella congratulated her with applause and a hug.

Marinella delivered the certificates of appointment to the County Auditor for recording.
