Pressure in your life?

January 18, 2024

Pressure cookers have become very popular, only now some of them are called "instant pots." They cook faster while sealing in the flavor using pressure and heat. When the food is done, it is important to use the "pressure release valve" before opening the lid or injury and burns can result.

Life can be like a pressure cooker. We can feel overwhelmed with worries, responsibilities, deadlines, demands, and fears that it all may go wrong. We need a "pressure release valve" that will release us from being overwhelmed and Jesus Christ is the One who offers it.

Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" Mt. 11:18-20.

We may be so troubled that we can't put into words our distress, yet if we come to Jesus, He will lighten our burden and give rest to our souls. He welcomes us into His gentle and humble heart.

A mom was overwhelmed by all of her responsibilities. She developed the practice of locking herself in the bathroom for a time each day so she could find a few minutes away from others demands. In those moments she made herself available to the delivering love of Jesus Christ in prayer.

Instead of being controlled by worry and fear, she yoked herself daily to Jesus who released her into His glorious freedom. "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" 1 Peter 5:7.
