Dayton Wine Works, which specializes in private-label wine production and distribution, and is a tasting room for Abacus Wine LLC, opened last fall at 507 E. Main. Gearing up for a full season of wine tasting, Carl Cramer has lined up folk, country, blues, jazz and rock performers for entertainment.

Columbia County to Host Families from Seattle. The fifth annual City-Farm Swap slated August 6, 7 and 8 will be hosted by the Columbia County Association of Wheat Growers, Jim Turner, Dayton, president of the Columbia County Growers, announced.

Mary Sue Evers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Evers, Wins Speech Placing in FFA Contest. For the first time since 1955, a public speaker and representative of the Dayton Chapter, has won a place in the state semi-finals to be held at Moses Lake on May 15.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

April 25, 1946

Dick Trudgeon, ex-army man, has re-opened his dental offices in the Old Fellows building. Dick, who went into the army in 1942, has been back a month or so and says he is ready to reopen his office.

Residents Must Eat Less Bread, with the present world food situation in the worst in human history. In France, China, India and Africa, millions face starvation in the next few months unless they can be furnished enough food for bare existence.

For Sale; Mr. Pleasant School property, part of School District No.1. It is three-room cottage 24 x 14, school building 20 x 30, wood shed, about ½ acre of ground including good painted fence.

Twenty-year-old First Sergeant Grover R. Turner, with the Eighth Army at Muroran, Japan, with the 675th Glider Field Artillery Battalion, is on his way home for discharge.

New wage scale became effective today at local sawmill with the basic wage fixed at $2.60 a day for common labor.
