Last week a predicted snow storm of some duration was expected overnight, with the forecast potential of blanketing Dayton and environs so as to make treacherous walking and accessing various public buildings. While the snowfall wasn't record setting, there was enough that the mobilized efforts of the Dayton Lions Club and Dayton Kiwanis Club pitched in last Thursday morning to help clear the sidewalks, stairs and wheelchair ramps at a couple locations around town, such as the Dayton Memorial Library, shown here, the Dayton Post Office and a private residence which is home to a wheelchair-bound resident. As this week's paper is put to bed, much of the white stuff has melted and the temperature is hovering around 50° F.

WALLA WALLA–Columbia REA scholarship applications are available online for three $3,000 scholarships for qualifying co-op member families.

The Columbia REA Scholarship Program is designed to assist with continuing educational opportunities for qualifying co-op member families by offering three (3) $3,000 Clark A. Brewington Memorial Scholarships each year in honor of former Columbia REA General Manager Clark Brewington. These scholarships are allocated evenly in the amount of $3,000 per year for four years (up to $12,000 total) to an accredited institution. One (1) scholarship per Columbia REA voting district, based on the residency of the member applicant, will be awarded each year.

In order to be eligible, applicants must meet the following conditions:

• At the time of application, the candidate must be a high school graduate or a graduating high-school senior.

• Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited undergraduate educational program or training institution that would lead to an undergraduate degree.

• A candidate may enroll/be enrolled in any field of study.

• A candidate may use the scholarship at any accredited college, University or training institution.

• Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the candidate, or the candidate, must be a member of Columbia REA with an active account served by Columbia REA.

The 2022 Columbia REA Jeff Meredith Lineman Scholarship Program will offer two (2) $3,000 scholarships to a person enrolled in or who will be enrolled in a recognized Electrical Line worker Program (ELP). This scholarship will contribute a one-time payment of $3,000 to the recipient's school account for fees and tuition expenses upon successfully enrolling at a recognized Lineman school.

Applications for all scholarships will be evaluated by a volunteer committee, and the recipients will be announced at the Columbia REA Annual Membership Meeting in April, 2022.
