Dayton-Waitsburg senior middle blocker Amy Farley keeps her focus on making a pass in DW's four-set win over Liberty Christian.

POMEROY–The Dayton-Waitsburg Volleyball got a pre-league tune-up session at the Border Battle here last weekend, on the heels of a non-league win over conference rival Liberty Christian last week on the home court in Waitsburg.

The team is now at five wins, seven losses and one tie, and league play started on the right foot this week with a win in a rematch with Liberty Christian in three sets, 25-18, 25-11, 25-22. DW travels to TriCities Prep tonight and makes a long road trip to Kittitas on Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. match. See next week's newspaper for more about these matches.

Dayton-Waitsburg warmed up for league play by defeating the Liberty Christian Lady Patriots in four sets, 25-16, 18-25, 25-9, and 25-21.

"We had a great win with that," commented Head Coach Tara Brenner.

The volleyball squad journeyed to Pomeroy last Saturday for the annual Border Battle and played a dozen sets against five opponents.

DW opened by defeating Kamiah in two sets, 25-23, 25-18.

Turning out to support the Dayton-Waitsburg Volleyball team were these volleyball-capped football players who gave the game some added spirit.

Genesee gave the Lady Deedubs two losses, 25-14, 25-17, as did Troy, 25-10, 25-14. Kirsten Miller made some amazing serve receives in the Troy match, Brenner said. The team counted four blocks in the match.

"The toughest team was Troy and scores didn't reflect how tough a game that was," Brenner said. "The girls really did a good job of digging and passing." Numerous points included long volleys with tenacious, gritty play by DW, she said.

Dayton-Waitsburg lost in three sets to Orofino, winning the first 25-21 but dropping the final two, 15-25, 10-15.

The long day of volleyball was capped with another three-set loss, this to Prairie, in 22-25, 25-22, 10-15. "The girls were playing phenomenal," Brenner said. "They were playing in positions not trained for but were having fun and had a good positive attitude." Sadie Seney fired six aces in a row against Prairie.
