DAYTON-High School athletes are getting excited as the long-awaited winter sports season has come around. Although the fall athletic season will be missed and seems to have gone by quicker than ever, the sportsters are ready to make that transtition.

Starting up for another great basketball season, the team members have been taking full advantage of their gym availability to prepare for the physical demands that are coming soon. The cheerleaders are already getting excited to prepare for game day, to lead the energetic Dayton-Waitsburg crowd in supporting our players.

Last week, a member of the Columbia County Health Department staff paid a visit to the high schoolers to give a presentation about the dangers and details of vaping. It has been said that vaping is a rising issue in many schools. Dayton High School staff are making efforts to reduce the possibilities of our students partaking in this behavior, in the hopes of keeping our students safe, and healthy.

The presentation made by the health department staff included a great deal of useful information on e-cigarette products that many could benefit from. This information included details on the structure of vape products, and how they function, the dangerous chemicals which can be found in e-juice, and the many forms of vape products that can be found. The presentation also included comparisons in nicotine levels between traditional cigarettes, and e-cigarette products, and the likelihood of teens usage of both.
